Families Together is a friendly and inclusive program designed for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families to come together, connect, and enjoy meaningful activities in a relaxed and supportive environment. The program provides a safe space for families to share experiences, build connections, and enjoy a sense of community while participating in fun and educational activities.

Each session includes a shared healthy dinner, giving families the opportunity to enjoy good food, conversation, and quality time together. Activities are designed to be engaging and culturally respectful, offering opportunities for both adults and children to learn, create, and celebrate culture.

Activities include:

•  Cultural arts and crafts – explore traditional and contemporary creative practices

•  Cultural support – guidance and connection to community resources

•  Special outings – fun trips and experiences designed to strengthen family and community bonds

The program is run by Uncle Bonny Gibson and Sonia Turner, who warmly welcome families and ensure that every session is enjoyable, safe, and culturally enriching.

Transport may be available for families who need assistance attending.

Families Together is a wonderful way for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families to connect, celebrate culture, and grow together in a supportive community setting.

The development of the bush tucker garden is a project designed to incorporate a traditional (Kaurna) flora landscape setting with modern garden settings. The combination of these features is to develop a project at the Centre that can be used by community members to relax, reflect and coexist as a multicultural demographic society. The Bush Tucker Garden is also an opportunity to acknowledge the landscape of the traditional custodians of the land in the Onkaparinga Council area through the garden features of traditional bush garden shrubbery.
